The Ping G425 driver has already enjoyed a fast start to life on some of the world’s professional golf tours. But what makes it so special?
Here we take a closer look at the new G425 driver, giving you the low down on what it’s all about and the options available to you today!
Ping is one of the most loved leading manufacturers of golf equipment and, although they started off making putters in a garage, they have gone on to produce some of the best drivers on the market today.
It all began with the Ping G410 – the one that all the other top manufacturers wanted to emulate for its exceptional forgiveness. Ping was well aware of the success this driver had so decided to combine technologies from the G400 and the G410 to create the new G425 which is faster, longer, more forgiving and suitable for all golfers.
In terms of aesthetics, the Ping G425 driver isn’t dramatically different from the G410 range. However, it does have a heavier moveable weight along a shorter track at the back of the clubhead. This maximises ball speed whilst improving the centre of gravity (CG) without sacrificing any forgiveness.
Ping claims that three models are better than one as it allows them to accurately accommodate the requirements of all golfers. The new G425 driver line-up consists of:
Each has a lighter crown – taking the weight that’s saved and redistributing it across the club – boosting MOI (moment of inertia).
The Ping G425 Max driver replaces the G410 Plus and is easily the best all-round driver within the 2021 range. It has the highest MOI in Ping history, making it the most forgiving driver ever, and the 460cc head is rounder than the LST.
Meanwhile the LST (Lower Spin Technology) model has a pear-shaped 455cc head, so is slightly smaller than the other models and allows you to see more of the clubface. It is designed to spin 500-700rpm less than the G425 Max.
Lastly, SFT stands for ‘Straight Flight Technology’. With a 460cc head and 23g fixed heel weight, this driver is designed to be draw-bias to straighten out the slice.
