GOLF GLOVES
Golf gloves are not essential but something we highly recommend for golfers of all ages and abilities.
Worn on the lead hand the hand (at the top of the golf club) they provide additional grip.
Leather golf gloves are tackier than the skin and can prevent the club from turning in your hand. Gloves also create more friction between the grip and the gloved hand, allowing you to send shots further and faster.
Men's Golf Gloves
Sometimes, speciality gloves are best-suited to unique situations (e.g. when it’s raining, cold or windy) and can effectively improve your grip on the golf club. These gloves include the Footjoy rain grip golf gloves or Wilson Staff winter golf gloves.
Our mens golf gloves are also great for keeping your hands warm and dry throughout your game. They are often manufactured from different materials, but synthetic and leather golf gloves tend to be the favourite of many golfers as they allow you to maintain a natural grip - preventing stiffness.
Do you tend to grip the golf club tight? The repeated swing action can cause blisters and calluses. Avoid gripping too tight by wearing a golf glove from Clarkes Golf Centre today.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Golf gloves are not mandatory, but there are several benefits to wearing them.
A golf glove will help you to secure your grip, allowing you to apply the correct amount of pressure to your club and preventing it from slipping out of your hands.
Nobody enjoys playing with ice-numbed hands in the winter, do they? Wearing golf gloves will keep your hands warm and dry when the conditions are less than favourable.
When playing in humid conditions, your hands are likely to get sweaty. Wearing a glove on one or both hands will ensure that both hands grip the club correctly, so you can swing better.
A golf glove that fits snugly (enough for you to be able to bend your hand and fingers) will offer comfort and protection for your hands – especially if you grip your club too tightly. It will also prevent calluses and blisters.
-
Many golfers wear one glove, some wear two, and others prefer not to use golf gloves at all. How many you should wear is a matter of personal preference.
The non-dominant hand (usually the left) generates the power and speed in the swing, whilst the dominant hand (right) guides the clubface to make smooth contact with the ball. Wearing a glove on your left hand only will provide more comfort and grip.
If you suffer from blisters and calluses on both hands, like many golfers do, you may prefer to wear a glove on each hand. Alternatively, if you’re hands are sweaty, a pair of golf gloves will ensure a secure and steady grip when you strike the ball.
Whether you’re thinking of wearing one glove or two, you’re sure to find what you need within our range of leather and synthetic golf gloves.
-
If you’re planning on wearing a golf glove, you want to make sure that it fits correctly – otherwise, it will affect your grip and swing.
Ideally, golf gloves should be like a second skin. They should be nice and tight across the palm of your hand and through your fingers.
If there is extra material at the tips of your fingers, your golf glove is too big and won’t aid your grip as effectively. Instead, opt for a smaller size.
When buying golf gloves, it’s a good idea to try them on for size. If you’re between sizes, we’d always recommend going for the smaller ones first as you don’t want them to be overly loose.
If you have wide hands or short fingers, or your fingers tend to swell during a round, you may consider a cadet golf glove.
-
Which hand you should wear your golf glove on depends on whether you’re left or right-handed.
Typically, a right-handed golfer will wear a golf glove on their left hand. This hand is placed at the top of the club and is the lead hand through the swing. It’s often referred to as the weaker hand, hence why a firm grip is essential.
Golfers who play left-handed will wear a golf glove on their right hand for the same reasons.
