What's involved in a custom fitting?
1 Meet & Greet
Your custom fitting starts with a relaxed one-to-one conversation with one of our experienced fitters. We’ll discuss your game, current equipment, playing style and what you’d like to achieve from your new clubs. Whether you’re looking for more distance, improved accuracy, greater consistency or simply more confidence on the course, understanding your individual needs helps us tailor the fitting specifically to you.
We’ll also complete your personal fitting booklet, creating a record of your current setup, requirements and goals before we begin the fitting process.
2 Data Collection
Next, we’ll take a closer look at your current equipment and establish a clear benchmark for your fitting. Using our state of the art Trackman launch monitor, you’ll hit a series of shots with your existing club(s), allowing our fitter to analyse key performance data such as ball speed, launch, spin, carry distance and dispersion.
Alongside the numbers, we’ll discuss how your current clubs perform out on the course and identify where you’d most like to see improvement. This gives us a reliable starting point to measure potential new equipment against and ensures every recommendation is based on your individual swing and goals.
3 Analysis
Using everything we’ve learned from your initial consultation and performance data, our fitter will analyse your results and identify where the biggest improvements can be made. We’ll then guide you through the most suitable club, head, shaft and specification options for your individual swing and requirements.
Rather than simply testing endless combinations, we use your data and feedback to focus on the options most likely to deliver meaningful gains.
Whether that’s increased distance, tighter dispersion, improved consistency or better ball flight, every recommendation is made with your game in mind.
4 Comparison
Now it’s time to put the options to the test. You’ll have the opportunity to hit a selection of clubs from the leading golf brands, allowing us to build detailed comparison data and see how different combinations perform against your current equipment.
Our fitter will compare the results side by side, looking at both the performance data and how each club looks, feels and performs for you. This allows us to narrow down the options and identify the equipment that delivers the best combination of distance, accuracy, consistency and confidence for your game.
5 Purchase
There’s absolutely no obligation to purchase any equipment following your custom fitting. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of the specifications and equipment that best suit your game, giving you the freedom to decide what’s right for you.
If you do choose to purchase your new clubs from Clarkes Golf, we’ll help make the process as straightforward and affordable as possible. We offer a part-exchange service for your existing equipment, competitive price matching and interest-free payment options, helping you get the clubs that are right for your game at the right price.
CUSTOM FIT TECHNOLOGY
1 TRACKMAN LAUNCH MONITOR
Each swing you make is measured in full, with over 40 data points captured on every shot and every club in the bag. It gives you a far clearer picture of what your swing actually does, where your game is strongest, and which parts of your setup are costing you shots.
TrackMan's patented Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) reads the exact point of contact on the clubface, a level of detail you simply won't get on standard kit. Alongside that it records club head speed, smash factor, angle of attack, swing path, face angle, dynamic loft and lie, all to a standard you can genuinely rely on. Our fitters then work through those numbers with you, explaining what the data is telling us and building a set specced to your swing rather than to an average one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is custom fitting worthwhile for high-handicap and beginner golfers?
Absolutely. Custom fitting isn't just for experienced or low-handicap golfers. Beginners and higher-handicap players can also benefit from clubs that are suited to their swing, helping make the game more enjoyable and potentially making it easier to achieve a consistent ball flight.
How do I know which shaft is right for me?
There isn't one shaft that works for every golfer. Your fitter will use your swing and ball-flight data to narrow down suitable shaft options, which can then be tested to see how they perform. Factors such as shaft weight, flex, launch and overall feel can all influence how a club performs for you.
How long does it take to receive my custom-built golf clubs?
Once your specifications have been confirmed and your order placed, the clubs are built to your requirements by the relevant manufacturer. Delivery times can vary depending on the brand, model and components selected, so your fitter should be able to provide an estimated timescale when you place your order.
Can I try different brands during a custom fitting?
Yes. A custom fitting can give you the opportunity to compare equipment from different manufacturers and test a range of club heads and shaft combinations. Rather than choosing equipment based purely on brand or appearance, you can see how different options perform with your own swing.
Is the custom fitting fee refunded if I purchase golf clubs?
Yes. If you decide to purchase your new golf clubs following your custom fitting, the fitting fee can be deducted from your purchase. This means you can put the cost of your fitting towards your new equipment while benefiting from clubs selected specifically to suit your swing and game.
Can I get fitted for golf clubs if my swing is still changing?
Yes. You don't need to have a perfectly consistent swing to benefit from a fitting. A professional fitter can work with your current swing and recommend equipment that is appropriate for your ability and playing style. As your game develops, you can always have your equipment reviewed again.
