FOLDABLE GOLF TROLLEYS

Why a Foldable Golf Trolley Is Worth the Investment

Walking is one of the great pleasures of golf. A folding golf trolley lets you enjoy it without reaching the 18th exhausted from carrying a full bag. And because it collapses down when you're done, it doesn't take over your boot or your garage.

Fast Fold vs Flat Fold Golf Trolleys: What's the Difference?

Not all collapsible golf trolleys fold the same way.

Fast fold golf trolleys are designed to collapse in a single motion or a couple of quick steps. The Motocaddy P1, for example, uses a one-step fold. They're quick to set up and pack away, which suits golfers who want maximum convenience at the course.

A flat fold golf trolley takes a different approach, folding into a slim, low profile that lies flat. The Bag Boy Slimfold is a good example. Flat fold designs are often the easiest to store, making them popular with golfers who have smaller boots or limited space at home.

Both have their merits. It mostly comes down to how and where you store yours between rounds.

Choosing a Lightweight Folding Golf Trolley

If you're lifting your trolley in and out of the car every week, weight makes a real difference. The lightest push trolleys in our range weigh in at around 6 to 7kg, including the Bag Boy Slimfold, Motocaddy P1 and Powakaddy Twinline 5. That might not sound like much difference until you're hoisting a trolley into a full boot on a cold Tuesday morning. Aluminium frames usually give the best balance of strength and weight, keeping the trolley sturdy on the course without adding bulk. If weight is a priority, check the kilogram rating and folded dimensions on the product page before you buy.

Three Wheel vs Two Wheel Folding Golf Trolleys

Two wheel trolleys have been around for decades. They're simple and can be lighter, but you have to hold them at an angle and they won't stand up on their own.

A three wheel folding golf trolley adds a front wheel, which makes a big difference to stability on slopes, undulating fairways and soft ground. It stands by itself when you stop to play a shot and tracks in a straighter line, so you spend less time correcting it mid-hole. That's why most of the trolleys in this range, including the Clicgear 4.0 and Powakaddy DLX-Lite, are three wheel designs. For golfers who play varied terrain, the extra wheel is well worth it.

Small Folding Golf Trolleys for Compact Storage

If boot space is tight, a small folding golf trolley should be high on your list. The most compact models, such as the Clicgear Rovic RV1C 2.0, fold down to around 60 x 38 x 33cm. Others, like the Clicgear Model 8.0+, use a multi-stage fold with folding front wheels to shrink right down. Look at the folded dimensions on the product page, not just the unfolded size. A trolley that folds impressively small but takes five minutes to put back together every round soon becomes more hassle than it's worth. The best compact options manage both: small when folded and quick to set up.

Key Features to Look for on a Foldable Push Golf Trolley

Beyond the folding mechanism, a few features separate a well-designed foldable push golf trolley from a basic one:

• Adjustable handle: lets you find a comfortable pushing height whatever your build.
• Secure bag straps: keep your golf bag in place on slopes.
• Brakes: a foot brake or hand brake stops the trolley rolling away on a hill.
• Scorecard and accessory holders: keep your phone or rangefinder within easy reach.
• Extras: umbrella holders, drink holders and storage nets make a difference over 18 holes.

Think about how you use your trolley on the course and make sure the features match your habits. You'll find more options in our full range of push golf trolleys.

Electric vs Manual Foldable Golf Trolleys

If you're weighing up a manual trolley against an electric golf trolley, it usually comes down to budget and how much effort you want to put into the round. Manual trolleys are lighter, simpler and more affordable. Electric trolleys do the pushing for you, which many golfers find makes a huge difference over 36 holes or on hillier courses. Many now fold almost as compactly as push models. The Motocaddy S1, for example, has a one-step fold and a lithium battery rated for 36 holes. If you're not ready to make the jump to electric, a well-made foldable golf cart will serve you well for years.
