What clubs did Rory McIlroy use to win the 2023 Ryder Cup with Team Europe?

It was a thrilling and emotional event for all involved at this past weekend’s Ryder Cup in Rome as Team USA and Team Europe battled it out, keeping with tradition, for one of the biggest prizes in all of Golf.

In the end, Team Europe was able to snatch the coveted cup back from the clutches of Team USA, with Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland and more producing sensational shots time and again to keep the American side at bay.

The event arguably belonged to McIlroy, though, with the former world number-one securing more points than at any other Ryder Cup he’s played; 4 points from five matches. But what clubs did Rory McIlroy use in the Ryder Cup to help his team soar to victory?

Let’s take a look…

What clubs were in Rory McIlroy’s bag during the 2023 Ryder Cup?

Driver - TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus

To hit monster drives, you need to use a monster at the tee, which is exactly why Rory McIlroy has likely chosen the TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus as his driver of choice for the 2023 season.

Utilising 75 per cent more carbon (as opposed to steel or titanium) than the nearest alternative, the Stealth 2 Plus is an ultra-lightweight driver that helps produce exceptional swing speeds and power off the tee.

But the increased reliance on carbon also helps the Stealth 2 Plus in the forgiveness department, with TaylorMade’s 60x carbon twist face helping bring slightly off-centre shots back in line with your desired direction, while also offering inverted cone technology to boost the chances of your ball striking the expanded sweet spot on the clubface.

For professionals and more advanced players, the Stealth 2 Plus also includes a sliding 15g weight, which can be adjusted to help the club match your desired shot shape. Along with this, the FCT loft sleeve can be altered to maximise trajectory and launch, for a driver that’s as powerful as it is versatile.

Wood / Rescue - TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus / TaylorMade Stealth Plus

Sticking with the ever-reliable TaylorMade Stealth line, McIlroy opted to pick up both the TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus and the TaylorMade Stealth Plus - one at 15 degrees, one at 19 degrees.

Much like the driver, the Stealth 2 Plus fairway wood is a customisable dream, featuring a huge 50g adjustable weight so players can dictate the type of shot they want to hit. Moving the weight to the back of the head offers a higher launch, while shifting it to the front produces fantastically long shots with low spin.

TaylorMade’s inverted cone technology makes another appearance here, offering good levels of forgiveness while maximising ball speed across the face.

In the rescue club department, McIlroy reached for another TaylorMade (do you see a trend emerging here?) in the Stealth Plus Rescue. Offering the control one could expect when working with an iron, as well as the forgiveness and distance of a fairway wood, the Stealth Plus Rescue is always a great choice for those pesky second shots where there’s still a good distance left to the pin.

Irons - TaylorMade P760 (4-iron) and P730 (5-9 irons)

Splitting his irons between separate TaylorMade editions, McIlroy chose the P760 as his 4-iron of choice, which is forged from carbon steel and features new speedfoam technology. This is designed to help irons achieve great distance without sacrificing feel, for a long iron that is both enjoyable to use and produces the distance you need.

The P730 series, on the other hand, was crafted using the feedback of the world’s top golfers, to create a tour-inspired set of irons that meets the demanding needs of professional players every single time.

Wedge - TaylorMade Milled Grind 4

Utilising deep laser etching across the face, the TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 wedge is perfect for using around the green in damp weather, when spin control is an absolute must. The design channels moisture away from the face, helping the club make a better connection with the ball, so you can command your shots no matter the conditions.

Featuring a slightly larger head and face than previous models, the Milled Grind 4 is an aesthetic joy as well as a handy tool when you’re just off the green.

Putter - TaylorMade Spider X

Sounding more like a superhero than a golf club, the TaylorMade Spider X is an innovative and unmissable powerhouse of a putter.

Built in the eye-catching mallet style, the Spider X features an easy-to-follow line along the top of the club head, for optimal aim and follow-through. The precision weighting employed by TaylorMade also aids control throughout the swing to offer a putter that feels like it was made for long, accurate putts on huge greens, yet is just as useful at close range.

The pure roll insert on the clubface produces a more pleasant sound and feel, so your short game doesn’t need to feel like an annoying job, as it often does.
