How to choose the best Golf Waterproofs

The UK weather is nothing short of unpredictable. One minute it’s scorching and we’re plastering the sun cream on. The next, it’s cold and blustery and we’re having to dig out our trusty waterproofs.

Ok, so they aren’t the most glamourous pieces of clothing you can buy today – granted – but having golf waterproofs can make the difference between keeping dry and comfortable and hating every minute.

Which bids the question: are your waterproofs up to the job?

Gone are the days of baggy and cumbersome waterproofs. They are now stretchy and lightweight; colourful and athletic. A good pair of golf waterproofs will be quick and easy to throw on over the top of your polo shirt or sweatshirt and golf trousers. If yours are somewhat dated, or a little on the snug side, now is the perfect time to invest in new – especially since most manufacturers have released their autumn/winter collections!

Clarkes’ Golf Centre has an extensive range of men’s and women’s golf waterproofs available online. The hardest part is knowing which to buy. That’s why we thought we’d share some useful tips on how to choose golf waterproofs.

Level of protection

The level of protection you need often comes down to how often you play golf.

For example, if you consider yourself an all-weather golfer, you’ll want to be confident that you’re prepared for the elements – be it rain, hail, sleet and snow. Alternatively, if you’re a seasonal player, you might stick to playing in the spring, summer, and possibly the autumn. In which case, you won’t need as much protection as someone who intends on playing throughout the damper months.

So, what are your options?

  • Windproof – unless specified, this level of weatherproofing won’t protect you from the rain but is made from technical fabrics that will spare you from biting winds.
  •  Rainproof – not quite as substantial as waterproof, yet offers more protection than a thin, lightweight jacket. It’s perfect for short, sharp showers.
  •  Waterproof – the best you can buy! As its name suggests, it is 100% water-resistant and will keep you (and your base layers) bone dry in heavy rain – no matter whether you’re playing 18 or 36 holes!

Practicality

Once you’ve decided on how much protection you require, you then need to think about the functionality of the garment.

A pair of waterproof golf trousers that you can put on quickly – over the top of your trousers and shoes – is ideal, as is a waterproof jacket that zips up the centre and has pockets.

The last thing you want to be doing in the rain is having to fiddle around untying your shoelaces, getting your socks wet and having to button up your coat. However, if the weather improves, it’s useful if you can remove these waterproof layers without hassle.

Here at Clarkes’ Golf Centre, we bring you the very best range of golf waterproofs – from brands such as Callaway, FootJoy, Galvin Green, Ping and Sunderland of Scotland. We stock ladies waterproof golf trousers, such as the Galvin Green Alana Trousers – that enjoy an elasticated waistband and can stretch over the top of your shoes, and hold up without a belt – as well as men’s waterproof jackets which are as stylish as they are practical. The Callaway Stormguard Jacket is a brilliant choice.

Fit

When buying golf waterproofs, it’s always a good idea to try them on to make sure they fit comfortably in all the right places.

For example, you don’t want to squeeze yourself into a pair of trousers, or a pair that are too long in the leg as you’ll end up tripping over them. Likewise, a zipped up jacket that feels tight across the front and restricts arm movement won’t do you any favours. In fact, it will only hinder your swing.

Ordering online is (by far) the easiest way to buy golf waterproofs if you’re pushed for time. We provide men’s golf waterproofs in all sizes – ranging from S to XXXL, including trousers in a 34, 36 and 38-inch waist. Women’s waterproofs are also available in XS right the way up to XXL, so you should have no issue finding the size you’re looking for.

If you’re not satisfied with your purchase, or if something doesn’t fit right, you’re more than welcome to return it or swap it for another size. All we ask is that the product is returned within 14 days of the receipt and still has its original packaging and labels.

So, what are you waiting for? Shop the range of golf waterproofs here at Clarkes’ Golf Centre. If you have any questions or would like to know our top picks, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
