5 tips for golfers in Lockdown 3.0

As we’ve moved into our third national lockdown, golf courses in England have closed (yet again!) to combat the spread of the coronavirus – leaving many avid golfers disappointed. Whilst you might not be able to get out onto the links, swing your clubs and socialise with your mates, all is not lost.

Here the Clarkes’ Golf team explain what you can do to keep yourself busy during lockdown 3.0, and how best to prepare for the reopening of indoor and outdoor golf facilities, clubs and driving ranges:

Sort out your golfing wardrobe

Ok, so you might not be able to visit the golf course but, the truth is, now is the ideal time to have a good sort through your clothes. Who knows, stashed away in your wardrobe, you may find golf polo shirts that have barely been worn or odd socks shoved in the drawer. Generally, anything that hasn’t fit in over a year, is uncomfortable, has stains, holes or no longer suits your style, needs to go. Let’s face it, you probably need to make space for new golf apparel that you got for Christmas anyway!

Prepare for the season ahead

We’re talking men’s golf waterproofs, base layers and gloves here. When we’re allowed to hit the links and play some winter golf (hopefully soon!), you’re going to want to wrap up warm – and a good pair of golf waterproofs will serve you well on the wettest of days. But battling the elements isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. If this rings true with you, it’s worth checking that you have everything you need for warmer weather, i.e. a decent pair of golf shorts, a short-sleeved golf shirt, a cap, sun cream and towel. Start looking now and you could grab yourself a bargain!

Treat yourself to some new equipment online

Has your golf bag seen better days? Perhaps you’ve been saving up the pennies to buy an all-singing all-dancing electric golf trolley or promised yourself a new set of golf clubs in the new year? You’ll find a comprehensive range of golf equipment on the Clarkes’ Golf website, including big name brands such as Callaway, Ping, Titleist, Motocaddy and PowaKaddy. So whilst you’re sat at home – looking for something to do – why not browse our online shop and take advantage of our convenient delivery service? After all, you deserve a treat.

Stay fit and healthy

With dark mornings, freezing temperatures and blustery winds, finding the motivation to exercise can be difficult throughout the colder months of the year – but, nonetheless, it needs to be done. Whether it be a brisk walk in the morning before work, a jog around the block or a 30-minute cycle on the indoor bike, keeping up your cardiovascular fitness throughout lockdown will improve your physical and mental wellbeing. It will also help you perform better when it’s time to get back to playing the sport you love.

Practice, practice, practice

Could your putting do with some work? Maybe you’re worried your drives or strokes will take a hit whilst you’re away from the course? The good news is we have plenty of brilliant training aids available – and, as they say, ‘practice makes perfect’. From putting mats to practice balls, nets and simulators, the options are endless – and all suitable for use at home. To keep yourself ticking over during the lockdown, you can use these aids alongside practice drills.
